Antofagasta plc (the "Company") announces that, on 23 April 2019, the Board of the Company appointed A. E. Michael Anglin as an Independent Non-Executive Director with effect from 1 May 2019.

Mr. Anglin has over 30 years of experience in base metals, with a focus on South American and US operations and mine construction. He spent 22 years with BHP Billiton Limited, most recently serving as Vice President Operations and Chief Operating Officer of the Base Metals Group based in Santiago, Chile, before retiring in 2008. As part of that role, he was responsible for the majority of BHP Billiton’s large-scale mines in South America and he has extensive experience in South American government and community relations.

Mr. Anglin graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Mining Engineering from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London, and attained a Master of Science degree from Imperial College, London.

Mr Anglin, aged 63, is based in San Francisco and is a US citizen.

Mr. Anglin is currently Chairman of SSR Mining Inc. and holds or has held roles on the Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee, the Safety and Sustainability Committee and the Compensation Committee. He was a director of EmberClear Corp. until 2014.

Mr. Jean-Paul Luksic, Chairman of the Company said today: “Together with the Board, I am very pleased that Mike has accepted our invitation to join the Board. His comprehensive mining expertise and extensive experience in developing and constructing large-scale mines in the Americas will be of great benefit to the Company over the coming years.”

For the purposes of the UK Corporate Governance Code, Mr. Anglin is considered by the Board to be independent. Save as disclosed above, there are no further disclosures required under Listing Rule 9.6.13(1) to (6) in respect of Mr. Anglin. If he is elected by shareholders at the AGM, 60% of the Board, excluding the Chairman, will comprise independent non-executive directors.
